Workshop: History, Geography and Archaeology of Citrus in Premodern Europe and the Mediterranean

On 15 December 2025, we organised a seminar at the Università degli Studi di Genova, focusing on citrus production, trade and consumption across a broad chronological spectrum. Participants presented promising research and we had the opportunity to share our work with other scholars, thereby strengthening networks and synergies in the field of economic history.

The programme included several international experts who presented research on topics ranging from the increase or decrease in lemon and orange production and the fluctuations of these fruits throughout the Mediterranean to the intricacies of citriculture knowledge, the names of citrus fruits and the cultural backgrounds of these delicious products.
